How was the local Coordinator and the staff and the support provided in-country? 

The staff and support was excellent. And he was at the point immediately caught our attention from the first day. I felt safe and well informed. Both Sudhir and his family extended a warm welcome and helped us navigate travel and assimilating into the culture. 

What was the most surprising thing you experienced while in the program? 

The most surprising thing I experienced was it far exceeded my expectation I was surprised how Our host family welcomed us into their family. I was surprised how welcoming the matron Nurse and staff was at the hospital. Our travels inside Kathmandu and outside were so safe and such an adventure. 

What was most difficult thing you experienced while in the program? 

The last day at the hospital was difficult because I felt we have established trust with the staff and head nurse. There were many more opportunities to share knowledge with the staff. I know on last day with our host family will the difficult too.

Any tips for future volunteers….(clothing, travel information, packing, sightseeing, donations) 

Tips: If travelling in June: bring summer clothes. Don’t pack much, you don’t need it. If you stay at sudhir’s home stay- you won’t need an electronic adapter or a water filter because that is at the home.  If you are volunteering in the hospital (community) always be in touch with  the matron.  

Other things volunteers should know: 

Find out ahead by time what they need – for example bring suture set and scrubs. They are in the process of opening an ICU and need a full array of surgical trays.  

Travel: Travel like a local – be one with the people. They are kind and friendly. Sudhir will direct you and just do it. Follow his safety instruction.  

Highly recommend the Everest flight. Of course the many shines are a must. Smile and talk to the people – be respectful. 

For host family: See what they need after arriving and get $5 – $10 per day stay for a gift.  Go travel to Niva Nagarkot in (hire a guide for hike and all other arrangement)

My personal experience as a Volunteer Nepal has been changing. I have been so fortunate to work with nurses in a community hospital who make a difference every day. I truly believe the effort collaborative to bring change to the hospital. Also donate to buy a water dispenser that would bring cleanliness to the nurses and patients.  

I am fortunate to have stayed with a wonderful host family that puts family and values first. Thank you for letting me come.  

Volunteer Abroad

How would you describe your accommodation, meals, security? 

The room was beautiful and clean. A locked cupboard was provided. Indoor plumbing was awesome with even a warm shower. Meals were better than eating out at a restaurant. Thank you host family!

What was your memory of this trip? 

I loved the mealtime chats at dinner with our host family. We spent hours exchanging idea. I was truly amazed at the temperature. Our trekking day – along the mountain top was unbelievable and finally the Everest flight was spectacular. 

How was the information you received from ABV prior to traveling? 

Travel information was complete and prepared me.

Of course!

He was very helpful and almost always available to answer any questions that had also The “staffs” were very friendly and helpful at all the times. Sudhir was great at giving directions to anywhere you would want to go. He is just a good dude.

What was the most surprising thing you experienced while in the program?

The heat was the most surprising thing to me and I came at the pre- rainy season. So. The list of

Recommended items included winter equipment and my fault as well for not looking this up other then that I came with an opened mind

What was most difficult thing you experienced while in the program?

The heat and the rain. The heat here was killer for me but that could just be that I am not used to it. I came during the Manson season and it rained hard at some point of the day every day. I got used to wet and sweating.

Any tips for future volunteers….(clothing, travel information, packing, sightseeing, donations)

Bring the coldest clothes (temp) and pack a pair of sandal. Bring spray might just save your life on trip away from the homestay. Get your self some tagging skills; shopping area you can haggle for just about everything.

I am a high school student that volunteers often but on a small scale with the Red Cross. I was able to come here from Germany to help with the construction project at an orphanage. The staff were very nice and welcoming. I helped the orphanage level their front yard. We build a wall to help stop flooding and I painted the entrance room and some of the stairwell.

How would you describe your accommodation, meals, and security?

The room was clean and the beds were nice. We were given a nice lounging area where w could chill. The food overall was too good although some time a little spicy or me . As I a not used to with much spicy foods.

What was your memory of this trip?

The most memorable part was the being with the children and helping at work while construction during the holidays.
