Volunteer Peru: After my time volunteering at different places in Peru, I can say it was an experience worth having. It definitely opened my mind and perspective on things in my life. I have come to realize how much I should be thankful for everything I have in my life. This experience also taught me how to be more responsible and aware of my surroundings.
Volunteer Peru
1- How was the local ABV Coordinator/staff and the support provided in-country?
The local ABV Coordinator/staff was extremely helpful. If I was ever confused, I could just call them to help me out. When I first met the staff I was extremely curious to see if they were good people. I would soon come to realize that they were more than kind. We always talked about how our days went, and also went out for coffee together.
2- What was the most surprising thing you experienced?
Program: I was surprised by how much the people appreciated and were welcoming towards the volunteers when we went to different places to help out.
Country: The main experiences that surprised me were related to the work I was doing and not the country because I have visited Peru many times before to visit family.
3- What was the most challenging thing you experienced?
Program: The most challenging thing I experienced during the program was the distance I travelled to get to where I would volunteer at.
Host Family: I had no challenges with my host family because they were extremely nice people and would serve me fantastic food.
Country: The most difficult challenge would be walking around places, but you can take a taxi if you are ever tired of walking.
4- Any tips for future volunteers… (clothing, travel, personal items, donations)
1. Bring clothes that will keep you warm
2. Only drink bottled water
3. Try to visit many places and eat a variety of food to fully enjoy the experience
